Rachel Zoe> Cameron’s Chanel Dress

Just finished watching the 1st episode of The Rachel Zoe Project Season 2. Not a huge jewelry fanatic, but the antique jewelry was quite breathtaking. I attribute my awe to being female and becoming older.

At first, I thought the sleeve omission on the pink Chanel dress made sense. But I looked at the detailing on the back of this gorgeous dress:

Those buttons, the pleating….

But alas…

I thought it was quite entertaining how Rachel Zoe said the sleeve look was way too shocking for America. Americans somehow need to always see something they understand, something they’re already seen plenty of times before–such as an asymetrical dress.

On Cameron Diaz (sans sleeve), the dress was reduced to a California surfer girl–much less refined pink toga bed sheet look. Pre-washed –lmost like the dress was thrown into a washer. Not that she didn’t look good, it just looked real casual. Took the stiffness along with the haut out of couture.

I thought it was a celeb “no no” to show hair roots of another color?  I couldn’t imagine maintaining hair/beauty all the time.

I did like how Rachel picked out really beautiful color combos. The turquoise was amazing with the cream/white dress Eva Mendes wore and the silver shoes (slightly purple) worked incredibly well with Cameron’s pink dress. I didn’t really like Anne Hathaway’s, Demi Moore’s, or Debra Messing’s look.

It’s interesting seeing all those dresses too. It seemed most of the dresses were crap (designer or not) and fishing for the perfect combination of sillouttes, patterns, colors was the hard part. At any level, couture or rtw, rich or poor, you still have to work to find the best style.
