Krystof Strozyna Blazer

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

Admiring this look on StyleBubble:

stylebubble.co.uk

I really love the gray comfy pants + blazer + hot pink top.

The lapels are what really drew me to this blazer. Krystof Strozyna, Spring Summer 2010.

I wouldn’t have picked the blazer out if I had seen the collection on the runway:

The yellow pants + yellow brown design create too much of a distraction. Feel the same about most runway ensembles–with so many pieces within one collection, it’s hard to pick out what’s beautiful.

Abercrombie Skirts

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

“as a fashion retailer ANF is susceptible to changing fashion trends. It missed out on two key trends during the first quarter of fiscal 2009–skirts and intricately patterned goods–which has contributed to a decrease in sales.” – wikinvest.com

A polka dotted blue skirt–front and center in the window.

Polka dots = extreme print for ANF, where everything is mostly in solid colors

I always wonder what kind of trends stores like Abercrombie would be able to pick up on. Cotton sweatshirts, tshirts, hoodies, tanks and denim seem to be what they stock every season. Ultimately, they are a fashion retailer and make money by giving their shoppers what they want.

“Missing out on trends is especially detrimental for teen retailers like Abercrombie, as its target demographic shops more frequently, adapts trends quicker and is more recession-resistant.” – CNBC.com

The 2010 skirts are very un-Abercrombie. The floral skirt below, for instance…

And a zebra print? ANF girls ride on horselike creatures, not wear them.

This is one ridiculous looking print:

Looks like someone puked a pomegranate cocktail over a yellow skirt.

ANF calling upon inspiration from Forever21? If they’re known for their solids and muted prints (stripes), why would anyone pay 3 x’s the amount for a skirt that could be found at Forever21? They certainly went overboard in offering a variety of patterned skirts.

It seems someone needs help with the ability to capitalize on trends and keep a consistent identity.

Videofashion! online

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

I love Videofashion! I used to rent out their videos from a community college in Dupage county, IL back in high school. It was amazing since there was hardly any fashion videos online at that time–and the internet was way slow in those days. I would occasionally catch episodes on random cable channels when I had access to a tv with cable.

I can’t believe they’re playing episodes online: http://www.videofashion.com/SR/deploy/videoPlayer.html

Way too good. There’s something old fashioned about the way they produce these videos, interviews, clips, music, voice overs–some combination that makes it quite unique. It’s less slick than the style.com videos. They also have segments and transitions in between–quite cheesy with the music sometimes. I love it!!!

Better History

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

A joint curation between the 7eleven gallery and Nick Poe features art by New York artists. The art is playful and features youthful motifs–Sylvester the cat, colorful dinosaurs, and a wall hanging reminiscent of road runner cartoons decorates an industrial space in Chelsea.

Susie Bubble in Neon Yellow Pants

Susie Bubble of StyleBubble is photographed at United Bamboo by the Sartorialist. The small shiny black jacket and the neon yellow pants are balanced by a long white, loose shirt. The black band on the sandals complete the entire look. If each item were found alone, only an artist with practice and skill can piece this look entirely together.

As Susie Bubble posts on Style Bubble:
“I really thought I was doing the whole casual thing as I was wearing some fluro yellow Marios trackie bottoms, my grey Toga patent biker jacket, white pom pom top and Marni heels. Ok, it’s only really because of the trackie pants that I thought I was doing casual.” (stylebubble.co.uk)

Dream Wedding: Viktor + Rolf

Viktor & Rolf Wedding

I would walk down the aisle in either. The train of bows is amazing! Too bad you have to be a Dutch princess to wear a dress of that design caliber.

The Business of Fashion just came up with their top 10 fashion sites.  Style.com didn’t make it–but there are great euro fashion sites on this list.

The Hills Premier

Monday, March 24th, 2008

Take a look at what Whitney and Lauren Conrad had on for the premier episode of the season.  Some of it was very Parisian Chic.  But the dresses–all Alberta Ferretti.

What shocked me the most was the fact that Whitney pronounced Givenchy as if she had never heard of the designer. I’m not convinced she’s really into fashion.

LC’s lipstick is so dark!

Whitney is wearing an interesting tuxedo dress. Lauren shortened her Alberta Ferretti ball gown.

Worried about the damage on the dress!

Whitney looking amazing with pearls and black velvet.

Lauren’s ballgown deux

LC probably wouldn’t wear this in Laguna Beach.
