The Chanel store, located at the base of the Drake hotel, featured its FW2010 collection in their window displays. Fake icebergs…sculpted Styrofoam…

I suppose this takes place in the Arctic. Where else would they have access to the fur? I don’t think Antarctica has furry animals and polar bears live up North. But faux creatures can live anywhere.

I tried to find a boot like this on Zappos. It looks like a plain boot–but Nordstrom, Lord and Taylor, Urban Outfitters and Zappos doesn’t carry anything similar. Too bad.

Abercrombie Skirts

A polka dotted blue skirt–front and center in the window.

Polka dots = extreme print for ANF, where everything is mostly in solid colors

I always wonder what kind of trends stores like Abercrombie would be able to pick up on. Cotton sweatshirts, tshirts, hoodies, tanks and denim seem to be what they stock every season. Ultimately, they are a fashion retailer and make money by giving their shoppers what they want.

The 2010 skirts are very un-Abercrombie. The floral skirt below, for instance…

And a zebra print? ANF girls ride on horselike creatures, not wear them.

This is one ridiculous looking print:

Looks like someone puked a pomegranate cocktail over a yellow skirt.

ANF calling upon inspiration from Forever21? If they’re known for their solids and muted prints (stripes), why would anyone pay 3 x’s the amount for a skirt that could be found at Forever21? They certainly went overboard in offering a variety of patterned skirts.

It seems someone needs help with the ability to capitalize on trends and keep a consistent identity.

Found this company on Style Bubble. So neat, how they present with animated gifs. The last time I ever used an animated gif on a website was back in the 90′s. Funny how this is a refreshing way to present clothing.

Moschino is known for its cutsy bows found everywhere from bags to belts. Here the morbidly sweet Moschino bow is blown up 100 times and framed on top of a khaki colored raincoat.

Topshop USA Opening Weekend

Long barricaded line from Broadway wrapping around the corner onto Broome Street were the throngs of shoppers waiting in line to enter the long anticipated opening of Topshop and Topman.

Topshop handed out cloth totes decorated with fashion celeb faces on opening day.

Not sure when the madness will end–I’m not patient enough to wait in line. Hopefully in a few weeks I can walk right in. For now, I can view Kate’s latest and greatest on Topshop.com.

Ports 1961 Opens in Meat Packing NYC

Ports 1961–you would think it was founded in 1961. I feel tricked whenever I hear the brand name since it was founded in 2004! A luxury brand with a long history of exotic travels? That’s what they’re trying to be. So far, it seems to be successful. The creative director, Tia Cibani, was born in North Africa, and grew up in Vancouver. In addition, the company is based in Hong Kong. The store finally opened today–just in time to feed those hungry luxury consumers.
