Featured Versace – I Like

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

Rather than the traditional Versace monochrome mini dress, a more modern, fresh Versace look was placed in the Fall/Winter print ads.

The collection also features a wide array of very Versace flowy gowns, but I really like how they went a different direction with the sculpted and sliced dresses featured in the ads.  The mini skirt length is still very Versace, but the sliced up patterns make this the freshest looking Versace collection in a long time.

The cloth looks a bit shiny from the pictures – a bit of 80′s geometric polyester.

Chanel Spring Summer 2010: Latin Lovers Ad Campaign

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Karl Lagerfeld shot for Chanel’s Spring Summer 2010′s ad campaign.

The following few were stunning when I first laid eyes on them. Since seeing them everywhere, they’re not as special.

This reminds me of vampires…

This one is exceptional–the image wasn’t used as much. I like how dark and desolate it looks. Really contrasts the light and pure nature of the wispy tulle. She is Tess of the d’Urbervilles.

Phobe Philo style in clothing and ad campaign. Lighting reminds me of Juergen Teller’s Marc ads–the bright flash makes the images look a bit more candid. Gives life to the model mannequins.

Saw this ad in “AnOther Magazine” and no where else. Really like the casual, off centered font.

Brandvertainment: LVMH online

Nowness.com

Daily posts on art, culture, beauty, history that ties in fashion brands under LVMH. Little links that lead to purveyors, such as Opening Ceremony, and designers that work behind the brands. Just one a day.

Nowness.com

Content is much like excerpts found next to photo spreads in fashion magazines. I never read those and I don’t know how many people do. Fashion magazines are like picture books, you don’t want to read, just absorb images. I find myself scanning Nowness for more images but unfortunately, the site is slow. I hear they’re partnering on with more luxury advertisers–not sure how the site will potentially evolve, but it’s neat to check out the images for now.

First Spring Prada Ad

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

“A Still from ‘First Spring’ a film by Yang Fudong”

Is the guy’s suit Prada? Or is the moment Prada?

Tying indie flicks to the Prada brand.

Express ReRocks?

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Rerock? Express’s jean brand.

I was trying to figure out what “rerock” meant. Is it the last name of the jean designer?

So disappointed to find that they just made up a word:

“Rethink. Reshape. Rerock. Exclusive new denim fits and washes by Rerock…”

?

How long will this brand last? I wonder how long it’ll take for Express to figure how bad of an idea it is…

YSL paper plates

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

I was trying to figure out what was featured in the recent YSL ads

Is it a really short dress? Made from paper plates?

Turns out it’s a vest with pleats that form circles. It was belted to look like a dress.

What would you wear with this?

I’d be too afraid to get this dirty/wrinkled. Pleats are hard to manage

Kors and Cars

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

New Michael Kors campaigns take place in a parking lot. I think last year, ads took place on a helicopter pad.

Hanging out at the Valet stand

What is it with transportation and Michael Kors? Appealing to the image of being always on the go? To the local mall? Or wherever there are a ton of big SUV like vehicles?

Taking a walk around SUV filled parking lot

Maybe it’s the sleek metallic look of new SUV’s that help these campaigns achieve the feel Kors is going for.

Now this is just outrageous…a swim suit? clutch and heels? IN A PARKING LOT!!!

Walking in to TGIF from the parking lot

Love the creativity. Certainly adds humor. Wonder how MKors campaigns would be evaluated as a fashion concept on Project Runway.

LV vs. Alberta Ferretti

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

Faded and dusty burlesque French bistro bar.

burlesque-french-bistro-bar

Both in the same season? Who does it better?

Alberta Ferretti: the anonymous model and a stack of chairs behind her as if she were in a French Bistro Bar going into foreclosure?

or

LV: Madonna performing a solo burlesque show in an empty and dusty French bar?

Redefining luxury these days?

Model as Muse at Bergdorf Goodman

Monday, May 18th, 2009

Bergdorf Goodman is currently promoting the Model as Muse exhibition at the Met with their interpretation of iconic photo shoots from Vogue. The mannequins were of much better quality at Bergdorf than at the Met–mannequins used in the exhibition had cracks and holes in them. Images of Cindy, Naomi, Kate, Linda, Claudia, and many other supermodels are celebrated in the iconic images displayed in the Bergdorf windows.
