IFB Dress Up Soiree NYFW

Monday, September 14th, 2009

I was so excited for tonight’s panel–but I was so sick! Getting over the flu. I loved the venue, Broadway East. Had dinner with my life partner and it was absolutely delicious. I forgot what he had, but I had a nice vegetarian dish with lentils. I remember the waitress having beautiful fishnets of a funky design.

Super excited this evening to see Susie Bubble in person! :) :) :) She’s so cute! and how she talks, and blinks!

I was not so familiar with the rest of the panel–Because im addicted in the middle.

I was unable to sit through the entire panel. Just getting over the flu, felt so nauseous and needed to leave immediately. The place was quite packed, not enough space for people to be in the same room as the panel.

Now, my beautiful bed…

CK Jeans on Houston

Recently taken down on Houston and Lafayette. I couldn’t stop staring at the ad when it was billboard size. At one point, I was trying to figure out whether all the guys had the same faces. Finally, advertising that appeals to females!

But alas…they “came to their senses” and put this up…

Gaudi knock off pole

Sportmax windows in Soho feature Mondrian and Gaudi. Not sure where the art intersects with the fashion. The window props are funky. Mannequins stepping over Mondrian and gypsy pants near a Gaudi inspired pole.

Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland
Queen of Hearts in Moschino greeting window viewers as Alice was greeted. The Queen’s card soldiers (who were painting the roses red…) stand next to her.

I would imagine Moschino to be worn by a darker version of Alice. Instead, the dress is on the Queen of Hearts. Perhaps the black dress has commanding power when worn.

CFDA and Gap

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

Gap has designers recreate the classic white shirt–again.  This is the second year they’re doing this.  The lineup includes:

-Philip Lim
-Band of Outsiders
-Michael Bastian
-Philip Crangi
-threeAsFour

I’m not sure if they’ll do as well as Rodarte, Thakoon, and Doo-Ri. People love the hype. They’ll buy it even if it doesn’t look good.

Who isn’t providing a designer clothes to the mass market?

H&M: Stella McCartney, Roberto Cavalli, Karl Lagerfeld, Viktor & Rolf, Madonna (if she counts)
Target: Benhaz Sarafpour, Jovovich Hawk
Kohl’s: Vera Wang

Is it a way for these brands to reach household name status? Even at that point, not too many households can afford them.

The shirts go on sale in select stores and online April 15th, 2008.

Sole Desire:  The Shoes of Chrisitan Louboutin

March 13, 2008 - April 19, 2008

The Fashion Institute of Technology just opened its exhibition of Christian Louboutin shoes.  They trace his career and highlight what has been influential in his collections.  The colors and shapes he comes up with are truly fantastic.

Visit the online exhibition or read about it in the NYTimes.
