My favorite McQueen moments happened almost a decade ago. I haven’t been a fan of his more recent collections, but when I was much younger, his shows were incredibly inspirational. I’d say late nineties to early 00′s.
Most memorable shows:
1993 Collection: tampon strings
1999 Snowstorm
Spring 1999: Shaloam Harlow getting sprayed paint by 2 robots
Spring 2001 RTW: insane asylum chic, models prancing around a caged in windowed space with padding, light neutral collection, plump naked lady in scary mask in room full of butterflies
These days, designers brand themselves through the spectacle of pop stars and actresses in their front rows. Back at the turn of the century, McQueen made a spectacle through his dark theatrical fashion performances. Truly a moment in fashion history.
