The Third Mind: American Artists Contemplate Asia, 1860–1989

August Moon

The exhibit is currently being set up at the Guggenheim. I stopped by yesterday and there were many pieces influenced by the art of Chinese calligraphy–interpreted by Americans. Different colors, different strokes and thickness of paints used to describe the fascination these American artists had with Asian art.

Info on the painting above:
Arthur Wesley Dow, August Moon, ca. 1905. Woodcut on paper, 13.5 x 18.5 cm. Collection of Edgar O. Smith, New York
